How to Prepare for Your Colours Appointment with Your Custom Home Builder

Building a custom home is an exciting experience, and your colour appointment plays a crucial role in bringing your vision to life. To ensure a successful colour appointment, prepare by following these key steps.

Create a Vision Board

Browse through Pinterest, Instagram and home decor magazines to explore different colour schemes and styles. Save images that capture your attention, focusing on the colours and styles that consistently resonate with you. Visit display homes from both your builder and other custom builders and take photos of features you love.

Research

Consider your must-haves and nice-to-haves. Then take the time to understand the standard inclusions Live Green Homes offer. If possible, visit our supplier's showrooms to see some of the products firsthand. Determine whether you prefer the standard options or if you're interested in upgrades. Make a list of potential upgrades you may want.

Define your Aesthetic

Determine which aesthetics appeal to you. Consider your tastes and the atmosphere you want to create for your home. Do you prefer vibrant colours or more calming colours? Think about how you can create the aesthetic you want with paint, flooring, and lighting.

Colours Appointment Considerations

There are five key areas of your home to consider before your colour appointment.

1/ Exterior – your home's facade is its first impression and sets the tone for your overall style. Consider which elements appeal the most to you - brick, Weathertex cladding, or natural materials like wood or stone.

2/ Flooring – Flooring plays a pivotal role in determining the overall internal colour palette and style of your home. You will have tiles for wet areas, hard flooring for high-traffic areas like the kitchen, and carpet for bedrooms to add warmth and comfort. View the flooring options available to you at Bellarine Flooring, one of our flooring suppliers before your colours appointment.

3/ Kitchen – your kitchen is undoubtedly the centre of your home. Consider your cooking habits, whether you prefer a wall or under bench oven, and the potential benefits of a butler's pantry. Look for kitchen layouts that appeal to you and explore colours and styles through elements like splashback tiles, benchtops, and cabinetry.

4/ Bathrooms - Bathrooms offer a multitude of design possibilities. From tiling choices to double vanities, tapware, and bathtubs – many decisions need to be made. Ensure that your bathroom choices align with the overall style and continuity of the other wet areas, such as the kitchen and laundry.

5/ Lighting and Electrical – the lighting and electrical fittings within your home are such an important part of the design process and can easily be overlooked. From the type of lighting, to the placement of light switches. The amount of power points, data and TV points that you might require, we can also provide home automation and solar panels.
